Narrative
In the midst of an international crisis, career diplomat Kate Wyler is thrust into a high-profile job she is ill-suited for, with tectonic implications for her marriage and political future. The producers convinced both the American and British governments to allow them to use real-life settings as filming locations for the series, including the still-newly opened American embassy (at Nine Elms) which opened in 2018. The UK allowed filming in the Foreign Secretary’s office, a rare honor for any film or film production, especially an American one.

Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger of gigantic proportions
Season 2 had me almost having a heart attack in the last few minutes of season 2. I don’t know if my heart can handle a season 3. I initially thought this was a low-key, slow-burn political drama.
Boy, was I wrong
Maybe another kind of “feel good” TV drama like Madame Secretary. The Diplomat will have you on the edge of your seat every episode. I binge-watch it like a starving animal.
This is political theater at its finest
It’s even more cut-throat than my wildest dreams. And, even if it’s only a tenth of what really happens in US politics and the various agencies (CIA, Secret Service, Diplomacy), it’s still a wild ride. Keri Russell is back in a strong female lead role that reminded me why I loved her performance in “The Americans” so much; She is exceptional!
