Narrative
The Jackal is an elusive assassin who makes a living committing murders for the largest sums of money
He soon meets his match in the form of a tenacious British intelligence officer who pursues him in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. The novel “The Day of the Jackal” was set in 1963 and involved an assassination attempt on the then French president, Charles de Gaulle.
A remake of The Day of the Jackal (1973)
The series moves the setting to the present day. Eddie Redmayne excels in The Day of the Jackal, bringing depth and intensity to his role, keeping the audience in suspense with every move.
Lashana Lynch, however, feels a little uncomfortable in her role here
His performance elevates the story, adding layers of intrigue that make him a compelling lead character. While talented, her performance doesn’t match Redmayne’s subtle delivery, at times interrupting the flow and immersion.
A stronger protagonist would have elevated this story
It makes one wonder about the casting choices: could another pairing have made this series an instant classic? A better balance between the protagonists could have brought the epic impact the story deserves.
